How can we help?
We are a small team. We answer email — usually within a few business days.
For account deletion, data export requests, or anything urgent, please include your account email and a short description.
Frequently asked questions
I'm in the field with no signal — will I lose data?
No. inForest is offline-first. Every plot, tree, photo, and edit you make is saved locally to your iPad. When the device gets back on Wi-Fi or cellular, it pushes the changes up to the server. There is no "are you online?" failure mode for data capture.
How do I delete my account?
From inside the app: open the Profile screen, tap the red Delete Account button, and confirm by entering your password. The account, the forests you own, and the data inside them are removed immediately. This action cannot be undone — if you want to keep a copy of your measurements, export them from the dashboard first.
If you can't get into the app (forgot password and can't reset, already uninstalled, etc.), email inforest@dali.dartmouth.edu from the address tied to the account and we'll handle it from our side.
Records inside shared projects you don't own stay with the remaining members of those projects.
Can I export my data?
Yes. The app supports CSV export of trees, plots, and project measurements from inside the app. If you want a full export of everything tied to your account in one bundle, email us — we'll put it together for you.
I forgot my password.
Use the "Forgot password" link on the sign-in screen. We send a verification code to your account email; that lets you set a new one. If the email never arrives, check spam, then write us.
The app crashed / is acting strange.
Force-quit the app (swipe up from the home indicator and flick away the inForest card) and reopen. If the problem persists, email us with: your iPadOS version, the version of inForest from Settings → General → Inforest BranchingOut, and a description of what you were doing. Crash reports help us a lot.
What does inForest do with my photos and location?
Photos are stored against the trees and plots you attach them to. Location is used to place forests on a map and to time-stamp measurements with where you were standing. Neither is used for advertising. See our privacy policy for the full picture.
Can I use inForest on iPhone?
inForest is iPad-only by design — the plot grid and measurement workflows expect a tablet-sized screen. There are no current plans for an iPhone build.
